On Sunday, June 9 as part of the 73 rd annual Tony Awards, we will have the opportunity to celebrate the legacy of a great champion for cancer patients and their loved ones. The late CSC Champion and three-time Tony Award nominee and 2017 American Theatre Hall of Fame Inductee Marin Mazzie will be honored with a special Tony Award in recognition of her leadership within the theatre community for women’s health issues and her support of organizations such as the Cancer Support Community.

Leaders of the Navajo Nation, the Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), and the Cancer Support Community (CSC) joined Dr. Jill Biden on the Navajo Nation in marking a milestone moment: the opening of the first full-time cancer care center on an American Indian Reservation.

Today, the Cancer Support Community joined with Walgreens in announcing the expansion of Feel More Like You™. This is a first-of-its-kind pharmacy, health and beauty service available at no cost to help people living with cancer manage the medical and physical changes associated with cancer treatment.

Last week, two staff members of the Cancer Support Community (CSC) traveled to Tuba City, Arizona, the largest community on the Navajo Nation and home to more than 8,600 people. There, they met with Navajo and Hopi leaders to learn about the unique challenges facing Native-Americans and their access to cancer care. The following is a Q-and-A with programs and services manager Katie Dimond about her experience in Arizona. It is a first in a series of new CSC programs working with Navajo Nation leaders, medical leaders, and other advocates to create a ground-breaking movement for cancer support and treatment on the largest American Indian Reservation.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Dr. Jimmie Holland, a true icon whose research and teachings have transformed the cancer experience for countless people throughout the world.

Studies show that people who donate money are happier and healthier than those who don’t. Giving activates pleasure centers in the brain that adds to a person’s self-esteem, sense of purpose, overall happiness and physical health, regardless of income level.

On May 31 st, I had the absolute pleasure of watching Marin Mazzie sing these words during “Broadway & Beyond,” a night of powerhouse musical performances by Mazzie and her husband Jason Danieley.

In 2013, Beau Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma. Beau was the attorney general of Delaware and served his country overseas in Iraq. As Joe put it, “Beau Biden was, quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever known.” In May 2015, Beau passed away at the age of 46. Since then, Joe Biden has dedicated his life to making strides in cancer research, diagnosis, treatment, and care.

Last Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden hosted summits across the country and in Washington, D.C. to share progress about the Cancer Moonshot Initiative. Of the 100 summits hosted across the United States, 30 of them were hosted by Cancer Support Community Affiliate locations. To see photos from their Moonshot Summits, check out our Facebook album.
