Navajo Nation Gets Big Press

This May, we visited the Navajo Nation to mark the opening of the first full-time cancer center on an American Indian Reservation. Since then, two major media companies spotlighted our work with the Navajo Nation and health leaders to create the first full-time cancer care center on an American Indian reservation.

Set Your DVR for this Sunday, June 9

On Sunday, June 9 as part of the 73 rd annual Tony Awards, we will have the opportunity to celebrate the legacy of a great champion for cancer patients and their loved ones. The late CSC Champion and three-time Tony Award nominee and 2017 American Theatre Hall of Fame Inductee Marin Mazzie will be honored with a special Tony Award in recognition of her leadership within the theatre community for women’s health issues and her support of organizations such as the Cancer Support Community.

This is a first-of-its-kind pharmacy, health and beauty service available at no cost to help people living with cancer manage the medical and physical changes associated with cancer treatment.

Breaking Down Barriers in Native-American Cancer Care

Last week, two staff members of the Cancer Support Community (CSC) traveled to Tuba City, Arizona, the largest community on the Navajo Nation and home to more than 8,600 people. There, they met with Navajo and Hopi leaders to learn about the unique challenges facing Native-Americans and their access to cancer care. The following is a Q-and-A with programs and services manager Katie Dimond about her experience in Arizona. It is a first in a series of new CSC programs working with Navajo Nation leaders, medical leaders, and other advocates to create a ground-breaking movement for cancer support and treatment on the largest American Indian Reservation.
