Each year, an estimated 160,000 new cancer cases are diagnosed among LGBTQIA+ people in the United States. For those who identify as LGBTQIA+, cancer survivorship can bring a unique set of challenges, including isolation, discrimination, and high levels of post-treatment stress. Studies have shown that LGBTQ+ people have 1.5 to 3 times higher rates of psychological distress than non-LGBTQ+ cancer survivors. 1, 2

In any cancer survivorship experience, having the right support at the right time is critical. Yet, many survivors struggle to find LGBTQIA+ cancer resources. In a study conducted by The Cancer Network, LGBTQIA+ support groups were the top request made by LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors. 1

So, let's talk about the importance of support and spread the word about LGBTQIA+ cancer resources that are available.

Together, We Are Breaking Down Barriers to Care

Every June, Pride Month is recognized across the country to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, celebrate diversity & dignity, and promote equal rights and opportunities for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

At CSC, we recognize that it is more important than ever to celebrate and support community. We also acknowledge that much work still needs to be done to overcome health disparities in the LGBTQIA+ community, including those impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Addressing the health disparities that the LGBTQIA+ community faces is a step toward improving the health and well-being of LGBTQIA+ people with cancer and survivors.
