On Sunday, May 13, I set out on the Amgen Tour of California to spread the word about all the work we do here at the Cancer Support Community for cancer patients and their loved ones.

The Amgen Tour of California is a bicycle race throughout the state of California. We were the tour’s first charitable partner when it was launched 13 years ago.

The Tour has raised millions of dollars to help organizations like ours—and we are grateful to Amgen and other sponsors for making us part of this experience.

This year, the tour begins in Long Beach and ends up north in Sacramento. It is a 645-mile trek that is not for the faint of heart.

Thankfully, I myself will not be bicycling through the state. At each stage of the tour, my colleague Nick and I will be setting up booths, manning tables, and passing out materials about the services we provide for all people impacted by cancer.

That means I will be sharing how our nationwide network of affiliates makes our work possible as the largest provider of social and emotional support for people affected by cancer.

I will also talk about how our educational materials reach countless people who seek information about all types of cancers.

Finally, I will also share how our research on issues affecting patients and caregivers and our policy institute devises impactful studies that measure how different health care policies can impact people living with cancer.

Stay tuned to our social media channels for updates throughout the week as I traverse the state – and if you want a video update from the first stage of the tour, be sure to check out our Facebook Live we filmed yesterday.
