Cancer Champions on Capitol Hill: Sen. Dick Durbin
Each month we have been spotlighting a member of Congress who supports legislation and initiatives that make a difference in the lives of people impacted by cancer. This month, we recognize Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois as a cancer champion for his work in advocating for increased investments in cancer research.
Sen. Durbin lost his father to lung cancer at a young age, and he acknowledges the unfortunate reality that he is not alone. Recognizing that cancer research is not a partisan issue, Sen. Durbin continues to work with his Democrat and Republican colleagues to ensure ongoing funding for life-saving cancer research.
Watch this short video of Sen. Durbin as he shares his story and his hopes for a future where cancer does not take the lives of loved ones.
“Cancer touches so many lives, from patients whose worlds are turned upside down, to families who cope with the fear of losing their loved ones, to caregivers who put their lives on hold to tend to others.”
― Sen. Dick Durbin
