Utilization Management Webinar: Prior Authorization

CSC began its 2023 Utilization Management virtual roundtable series on May 1, 2023, with a discussion of the impact of prior authorization and how to educate advocates about how to improve prior authorization. Our panel of experts addressed how prior authorization is a decision made by health insurers, not a provider or other medical professional, and how such protocols burden providers administratively and delay access to critical care for vulnerable patient populations. The discussion focused on the definition of prior authorization, the effect on patients and providers, and what advocates can do to improve prior authorization practices. Speakers included Christina Bach of Oncolink and CSC, Casey Chollet-Lipscomb of Tennessee Oncology, and Peggy Tighe of Principal, Powers Law.
