Cancer touches us all. Whether it’s a personal battle, a loved one’s struggle, or the fear of what the future holds, we understand the impact of a cancer diagnosis and the need for innovative treatment options. We must work together to protect vital medical research that offers hope for all people impacted by cancer.
The current administration has proposed capping National Institute of Health (NIH) funding for “indirect costs,” which cover expenses that support essential research infrastructure such as laboratory maintenance, utilities, and administrative support, at 15% for all new and existing research grants. Currently, these costs often exceed 30%, meaning this proposal would cause unexpected and disruptive costs to existing research grants and significant future costs for research institutions.
These changes to research funding will hinder progress towards discovering life-saving treatments for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We can’t let this happen – we must work together as Americans to ensure that the fight against cancer continues with unwavering support.
Our time to act is now. Ask your members of Congress to oppose disruptive and harmful cuts to NIH funding and any other efforts that would stifle life-saving innovative medical research.
