Maria Gonzalo
Research Project and Operations Director
Since 2012, Maria has been a key member of the Cancer Support Community where she has held various roles demonstrating her expertise. In her current role as Research Project and Operations Director, Maria oversees the management and operational aspects of research projects in public health. She is experienced in developing strategic plans, leading cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful execution of research initiatives. Her work is characterized by strong analytical skills, a data-driven approach, and the ability to thrive in dynamic environments while crafting and communicating strategic processes and guidelines. Maria’s focus includes health service delivery, patient preferences, and health outcomes, with a special emphasis on health disparities, public policy, and advocacy. Her previous experience directing community research projects with Hispanic and Black communities further strengthens her ability to drive impactful research. Maria holds an M.S. in Economics from Arizona State University.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys sailing. Most recently, she undertook a multi-year, self-supported voyage on her 40-year-old sailboat that began in Annapolis, MD, and extended through the Caribbean and back. The trip coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, this adventure provided her with unique insights into public health responses to the pandemic across U.S. territories and abroad.
