Every fall around the first weekend of October, Lewiston, Maine hosts the Dempsey Challenge. For two days, participants run, walk or bike to raise funds for the Dempsey Center— a organization that offers free support to anyone impacted by cancer.

How Words Heal: A Q&A with Susan Gubar

In the book Reading & Writing Cancer, Susan Gubar discusses how writing and reading can be therapeutic explorations of one’s cancer journey. The book gives techniques for writing about a personal cancer experience, and it provides various examples of authors’ published pieces about cancer to be examined. Meeting Katherine Kelly Lang

When I realized who she was, I was excited to meet Ms. Lang because I had heard a lot about her through the Cancer Support Community. We are huge fans of hers, and not because she acts in a daily and iconic TV drama. Because Ms. Lang lost a parent and several grandparents to cancer, she wants to bring awareness to cancer diagnosis. She wants to help those impacted by cancer. She has done this by being a supporter and then ambassador for the Breakaway from Cancer initiative.
