Take Action: Restore Vital CDMRP Research Funding for Cancer Innovation

Take 2 minutes to tell your members of Congress why funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program should be restored.

Research is the foundation of progress in cancer innovation. It is often the first step towards obtaining better options for cancer treatment or improving detection so cancer can be caught earlier. Research is also our hope for ultimately finding a cure. Cancer innovation often relies on public research. This is why programs like the Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) are so critical.

CDMRP is a Department of Defense (DoD) program that funds health research benefiting both military members and their families as well as civilians. CDMRP covers a wide range of topics, including drug development, diagnostics, and prevention.

Roughly 50% of this program typically focuses on cancer. However, 57% of the overall program has been cut.

This means that some cancer research programs have lost all of their funding. These include programs that focus on kidney, pancreatic, brain (glioblastoma), and lung cancer. This ultimately means that the program has lost significant life-saving treatment and prevention funding.

Now is not the time to undo progress or stand idle.

Reach out to your members of Congress and ask them to restore cuts to CDMRP funding and to support cancer research.
