WASHINGTON – (Oct. 17, 2016) – The Cancer Support Community, an international nonprofit, was pleased to participate today in the White House’s release of the Cancer Moonshot Task Force Report, which outlines a detailed set of findings and recommendations to achieve the goals established for the Cancer Moonshot initiative earlier this year.

Cancer Support Community CEO Kim Thiboldeaux also participated in a Q&A Twitter chat in the evening to answer questions on the initiative, along with Cancer Moonshot's Greg Simon, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, Margaret Anderson of FasterCures, and Levi Garraway of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Through a White House fact sheet as well as a report to the President by Vice President Biden released today alongside the Cancer Moonshot Task Force Report, the Cancer Support Community’s Frankly Speaking About Cancer Clinical Trials program was recognized, and it was announced that the Cancer Support Community will host Cancer Moonshot: One Year Later in June 2017, in partnership with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Friends of Cancer Research, National Patient Advocate Foundation, National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, and LIVESTRONG. The purpose of this event will be to ensure that the work of the Cancer Moonshot continues, bringing together patients, advocates, researchers, providers, government agencies, industry organizations, and policymakers to ensure accountability around the pledges that were made in 2016, to measure the progress that has been made, and to identify what additional actions need to be taken to make progress on the goals of the initiative.

Announced in early 2016, the goal of Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot is to double the rate of progress in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care over the next five years and to ultimately end cancer as we know it.
