Cancer Support Community Connects the Cancer Experience Registry with Online Peer Support

CSC partners with Smart Patients to give patients and families access to online support and the opportunity to learn from one another

WASHINGTON, DC— The Cancer Support Community (CSC), an international nonprofit, today announced a collaboration with Smart Patients, an online peer-to-peer support forum for patients and caregivers to connect CSC’s Cancer Experience Registry with Smart Patients’ Cancer Experience Forum. Patients, caregivers, and their family members can join the online support forum for free to share, connect, and learn from each other in a safe and supportive environment—regardless of their geographic location.

Many studies have shown that social and emotional support is an important component of a comprehensive cancer care plan. A National Human Genome Research Institute study found that increased interaction with peers during treatment can positively affect patients’ outcomes and improve quality of life.

“This exciting partnership with Smart Patients offers patients and caregivers in the Cancer Experience Registry an online community where they can connect and learn from those with similar cancer diagnoses,” explains Kim Thiboldeaux, CEO, Cancer Support Community. “This is such a valuable tool because it will help those impacted by cancer know that they are not alone.”

Individuals can join by securely sharing their email address and setting up a free personal account. Once the account is confirmed, participants can take surveys, access information and resources, and participate in forums on topics of interest.
