This Tuesday, November 29, as we transition from Thanksgiving break into the holiday season, we are celebrating another holiday: Giving Tuesday. Created in 2012 by the United Nations Foundation, Giving Tuesday is a new tradition that focuses on the ways we can all give back. At the Cancer Support Community, we’d like to take the opportunity created by Giving Tuesday to highlight some of the ways you can help us provide the best services possible to people affected by cancer.
Of course, the simplest way to give to CSC is by making a monetary donation. If you are willing to make a one-time or recurring donation please go to our Donate Today page to help make a difference. You can also increase the impact of your donation by checking out our page on matching corporate donations. Many successful companies – well-known and otherwise – will match donations to non-profits. Find out if your company is one of these by asking your human resources department or checking a limited list of these companies here.
For those of you looking to plan ahead, we have a guide to planned giving which includes eventual donations based on trusts, retirement plans and insurance policies. Consider planned giving and join the CSC Legacy Circle, our honored group of friends who have chosen to leave a life-changing legacy with CSC.
As useful as monetary donations are, there are other ways to make a difference. One opportunity we offer is to explore our shop. Through partnerships with generous companies and artists, you can buy high-quality items for yourself or as a gift with part of the proceeds going to CSC. Items available include jewelry, perfume, books and artwork. We also partner with GoodShop, an organization which provides a percentage of your online purchases to the charity of your choice at no added cost. Check out our Shop CSC page here.
There are ways to give without spending money too. If you’re looking to get a new car, consider donating the old one to CSC here. You can find ways to help your local affiliate thrive by volunteering here. Participate in our Cancer Experience Registry here, by giving 15 to 45 minutes of your time to help CSC provide the best possible services to people affected by cancer based on your experience.
If you have the means to give in any of these ways, we are incredibly grateful. If not, we understand fully and we appreciate how your engagement supports us every day as we push forward so that no one faces cancer alone. Stay tuned to our blog in the coming weeks as we’ll discuss topics including November awareness months, New Year’s resolutions, community advocacy and the Greatest Generation.
