Frankly Speaking About the integrity of the U.S. drug supply

We live in the greatest country in the world.  We have available to us good medical care, we have researchers finding cures and/or treatments for the most challenging medical conditions, and we have companies who work to make these solutions available to patients.  Yet with our advances come challenges.

Today, Roche and Genentech announced that there is a counterfeit version of their product Avastin™ in the United States.  According to their announcement which can be found in full here, the companies are working very carefully with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to locate the product and also the individual(s) responsible for this unforgivable act.

There are several things you should know as a patient or loved one.  First, the product made and distributed by the manufacturer does meet all FDA requirements. Second, Roche, Genentech, and the FDA hold patient safety as their top priority and are working hard to not only solve this, but to also prevent counterfeit activity in the future.

Finally and as always, you should have an open dialogue with your healthcare team about this or any other concern or question you may have.  You are encouraged to join Roche and Genentech in this fight against counterfeiting by printing the notice and sharing it with your healthcare team.  It takes a village to raise a child and a community to conquer cancer.  We are so proud to have you as a part of our community.
