Risk Factors
Research is increasing regarding what we know about bile duct cancer. Scientists are learning more about its causes.
Following are common risk factors of the disease:
Liver Diseases: Having colitis or certain liver diseases can increase the risk of developing extrahepatic bile duct cancer.
These include:
- Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis
- Chronic Ulcerative Colitis
- Choledochal Cysts
- Infection with a Chinese Liver Fluke Parasite
Signs and Symptoms of Extrahepatic Bile Duct Cancer
These and other symptoms may be caused by bile duct cancer or by other conditions.
A doctor should be consulted if any of the following problems occur:
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes)
- Pain in the Abdomen
- Fever
- Itchy Skin
