Even with all its rewards and wonderful moments, parenting is a tough job. Raising a family after losing a spouse can make things even more challenging.
After coming up empty-handed in their search for resources for fathers who had recently lost their wives to cancer, a team at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill began their own support group just for these men, called Single Fathers Due to Cancer. Since its inception in the fall of 2010, this program has helped a group of fathers through a challenging time in their lives and is teaching experts important things about the unique needs of these men.
In this show, your host Kim Thiboldeaux is joined by Dr. Justin Yopp, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill, and Bruce Ham, a single father due to cancer who has just written a book about his experience, called Laughter, Tears and Braids: a father’s journey through losing his wife to cancer.
