Cancer Support Community Celebrates 30 Years at Annual Conference in LA

Affiliates from across the country gathered in Los Angeles’s L.A. Live complex for the annual conference and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Wellness Community. The meeting is an opportunity for affiliate leaders to share, learn and present on a wide range of topics and issues from development, social media, public policy, programs and management.

The week includes plenary seminars, networking session and breakout workshops while offering affiliates the opportunity to learn from speakers as well as share in best practices among colleagues. The conference opened with motivational speaker Jim Cathcart to kick off the event which also included a “Washington: After the Election” plenary featuring Libby Mullin, CSC policy consultant, and Dylan Roby from UCLA’s Center for Health Policy Research.

The week’s events opened with a warm fellowship reception in the new facility at CSC Santa Monica, the original Wellness Community city, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of CSC’s parent organizations. Mitch Golant, CSC’s Senior VP of Research and Training, was honored for his work and contributions to the organization.

The conference also featured a private movie screening of Decoding Annie Parker at the Regal Cinemas in LA Live. Writer and director Steve Bernstein presented the film, which tells the story of the BRCA gene discovery. The evening was attended by CSC’s affiliate leaders as well as friends of the Cancer Support Community.
