The Cancer Support Community hosted another successful Affiliate Leadership Conference this year in Pittsburgh, PA. From November 2nd-6th, representatives from CSC’s 50 affiliates attended the conference to learn from experts, share in breakout sessions, present insight from their organizations and celebrate another successful year in the CSC affiliate network. We have received positive feedback from conference attendees and hope that all participants found it to be meaningful and inspiring.
This annual conference is an opportunity to gather new ideas about activities to enhance sustainability (i.e. fundraising, operational management, board engagement, program development, outreach and marketing), articulate the strategic direction of CSC as a global community of cancer support, improve network-wide leadership skills, review CSC program model and standards, foster collegial relationships, and restore a sense of hope and commitment to our unified mission and strategic purpose.
Some highlights from the conference include an opening keynote address from Dave Jakielo, a noted author, speaker and corporate consultant. He came to the conference with more than 30 years hands-on management experience including time in hospital patient finance as well as managing physician practices nationwide. On Saturday, attendees also heard from Kat Dewey, principal at McCrory & McDowell, LLC and an adjunct faculty member for Duquesne University’s Trusteeship Institute. Ms. Dewey spoke about uniting two dynamic organizations and her experience with nonprofit management.
Affiliates also attended a lovely wine and cheese reception at Gilda’s Club Western Pennsylvania. We extend our sincere appreciation to Carol Lennon and her team at GC Western Pennsylvania for welcoming us to friendly Pittsburgh. The Cancer Support Community would like to thank the ALC Planning Committee for their hard work and dedication throughout the planning process and all of the attendees who made the conference such a success. We look forward to next year's 2011 Affiliate Leadership Conference in Washington DC!
