CSC to Host National Cancer Summit in November

CSC will host a National Cancer Summit on Saturday, November 5th, to report on national progress made against recommendations of the 2007 Institute of Medicine Report (IOM), Cancer Care for the Whole Patient. Dr. Roger C. Herdman, Director of the Board on Health Care Services at the IOM, will open the session by discussing the Institute's 2007 recommendations. Dr. Stephen Edge, Chair of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer will speak to new, patient centered standards that the Commission will adopt in 2012. Finally, Dr. Allen S. Lichter, Chief Executive Officer of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) will discuss the organization's Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI), a practice-based quality improvement program promoting excellence in cancer care. Following these presentations, our speakers will participate in a panel discussion to be moderated by Susan Dentzer, health issues analyst for PBS NewsHour.

An exhibition period before the Summit will feature health, non-profit, psychosocial and cancer advocacy organizations, each sharing information on their specific initiatives.  The event will bring leaders in the cancer community, non-profit organizations, patients and funders together to highlight programs and resources benefitting people impacted by cancer.

On Friday, November 4th, prior to the Summit, CSC will host an evening of fun and dancing, giving our colleagues in the cancer community an opportunity to celebrate our many collective achievements in advancing research, patient education, support and advocacy, so that no one faces cancer alone.
