In September 2009, the Cancer Support Community launched the C.A.R.E. (Cancer Advocate Resources & Education) Campaign. The campaign featured the Cancer Support Community’s first education installment exclusively for caregivers—Frankly Speaking About Cancer: When A Woman You Care About has Breast Cancer. The book provides resources, tips and support for those caring for a loved one with breast cancer. The campaign also includes a workshop series that was received positively at 20 sites across the country. In 2010-2011, Finding Strength Together: A New Tool for Couples will be conducted at approximately 35 CSC affiliates and 8 partner sites nationwide. The workshop series brings couples affected by breast cancer together to discuss issues that can arise during the cancer journey. Together couples learn and practice problem-solving techniques that have proven effective for tackling the challenges that cancer can have on a relationship. Research from last year’s workshops shows that individuals benefitted significantly from the program. Most notably individuals had an increased comfort in their ability to solve difficult problems.
